Questions and the "Real" Facts about Whitetail Urine
What do deer use most to communicate?
The most important communication whitetail deer have is scent communication. They rely on the smell of urine and glandular secretions to communicate dominance and sexual activity. When used correctly, urine is the most reliable scentcommunicator. Deer have a remarkable ability to determine several things from the scent of urine. This means when you use urine as a hunting tool, it must be freshand of the highest quality. Because a deer's nose is so sensitive to these scent components, we take great care in collecting the urine fresh and refrigerating it until it is sold to you. This means the urine you get from us is as close to a natural deer in the woods as you can get.
What type of urine is best to use?
We sell both buck and doe urines from healthy, mature whitetails from our own herd. Which is most effective? It depends on your goal as a hunter. Both are very effective but each type of urine has its advantages. Buck urine is very effective to "tick-off" the big boy in your woods and make him want to check out who is in his woods. However, it may intimidate or spook younger bucks and does. If your goal is to see deer and also have a good shot at bringing in a trophy buck, we suggest using doe urine. Doe urine will stimulate curiousity in does and bring bucks in to check out the "new lady" in the woods.
Do we sell "doe-in-heat" urine?
We DO NOT sell doe-in-heat urine! Because of research we have read from wildlife biologists and from our own field research, we believe doe-in-heat urine does not really exist in the scent market. Why? When a doe is in heat, very little of the secretions she produces mixes with the urine and it breaksdown very quickly. Don't misunderstand our position. We believe does do secrete a scent when they are in heat. We have all seen bucks chasing those does through the woods during the rut! But, that scent is from the vagina and is probably deposited on her tarsals when she urinates. Much of that scent is not deposited in the urine. Besides, even if it was, how much of that urine do you really think scent companies could collect. Remember, the doe is only in heat for a 24 hour period once a month!!
For this reason, we do not feel right about selling a product at a high price which may not be what it is supposed to be. From all of our field research that we have done as well as our customers, our pure doe urine matches or exceeds the effectiveness of any doe-in-heat on the market.
